Purpose of Our Drama SoWs at GCSE
The Schemes of Work provide a practical exploration of the text as play in performance, in order to apply
students’ creative ideas in a cogent and practical manner, as well as providing them with a thorough
understanding of the themes, issues and social/historical background of the play in question.
Exam Board Requirements
Originally created for the Edexcel & AQA NEW specification (2009 onwards), the Schemes of Work are also recommended to
teachers of other specifications that require a comprehensive knowledge and a practical understanding of the
text.
Short Plays & Monologues/Duologues
Our short plays lead to performances of about 30 minutes. Our
duologues lead to performances of about 10 minutes, whilst monologues lead to performances of about 3-5 minutes.
Exam Board Requirements
Our GCSE Short Plays, Duologues and Monologues can be used for GCSE
AQA Unit 2 Option 1, Devised Thematic Work, as they contain extracts from poems and practical suggestions for
original work. They are also suitable as stimulus material for Unit 1, Drama Exploration, Edexcel Syllabus, and
as scripts for short performances at KS4.
